Urban Legends Reference Pages

This week's site takes you to one of the foremost web authorities on Urban Legends.  Here you will find links to legends about Weddings, Horror, College, Radio/TV, Disney and More!   You can literally spend hours on this site and still not see it all!  My favorite section is the Disney Legends link.  Did you know that Disney once produced an animated short entitled "The Story of Menstruation"?  Neither did I.   But after reading all about it on the Urban Legends page I do!  This is a fantastic site and every visitor should bookmark this page so they can return again and again.

Each legend has a "rating" associated with it:

green indicates a true story or based on an actual occurrence
red indicates a false claim or statement
yellow indicates a legend of undetermined origin or veracity
white indicates a legend which in unverifiable

From the home page, a site visitor can get a list of currently circulating legends and rumors, check out the message board (to swap legends I presume), take a few trivia quizzes and even perform a database search of the legends contained at the site.

I only have one complaint, however, and that is the music which accompanies each page.  I find myself constantly clicking on the stop button (Internet Explorer) to make the music stop.  While I know I could instruct Internet Explorer to not play any music, I shouldn't have to.  To their credit, however, is a button on the bottom of their page which will allow you to "stop the music".   After clicking the button, you should be aware that you then need to click the "Home" button to continue.  The page does not automatically take you back.

I should also warn parents out there that some of the material on the Urban Legends Reference Pages could be considered unsuitable for younger browsers.   Especially the Sex Legends page.  Like all things, just use your own discretion when directing your children to this site, or better yet, spend some time with your kids and browse with them!

Having said all that, spend a few hours at the Urban Legends Reference Pages the next time you're online.  You won't regret it.  Enjoy!
