EarthCam -- Webcam Network

Main Web Site: http://www.earthcam.com

Okay, I'll admit it.  I've gotten hooked on this type of site before.  Our society is made up of voyeurs.  What else could explain crappy shows like "Jerry Springer" or "Cops"?

This site, however, allows you to be a voyeur of a different sort.  Have you heard of Yahoo!?  Well, this is the same concept except with NetCams.  You know what a netcam is right?  A netcam is a small, usually golf ball sized camera mounted on top of a computer somewhere which, using special software, transmits images to the Internet and beyond.  A popular example of a netcam is the QuickCam VC by Logitech.

What the EarthCam site does for you is break down the locations of these cams by category.  For instance, the are webcam listings in Arts and Entertainment, Education, Space and Science and Traffic, just to name a few.  I think what originally drew me to this site were the space and science cams.  It's exciting to think that there is a camera mounted up in orbit pointed down to Earth and I can see it live.

As an example of this site's power, while writing this review, I got completely off track and ended up on a web site dedicated to one of my favorite cartoons, "Cow and Chicken".  How did I get there?  Through the CowCam page of course!

So, as you can see, this site really reviews itself.  Click through on a few links...  I know you'll be hooked.

EarthCam -- Webcam network

Site Rating: 8/10
Pros: All the netcams you could ask for in one place!
Cons: Loose way too many hours staring at a fish tank or a hamster cage...just waiting...waiting... waiting...  Maybe that hamster will come out now...  waiting...
