ESC!Webs Site of the Week Week of August 27, 2000 Joey Green's WackyUses.com Main Web Site: http://www.wackyuses.com This week's site of the week was going to be AnythingLeft-Handed.com. This week, however, I can't seem to pull up the site (such is the nature of the net!) so I'm substituting WackyUses.com! What Is It? WackyUses.com is a great site to go to if you're interested in learning about all of the neat and unintentional things you can do with common everyday products. The site is actually based on a series of books which you can, coincidentally, order though the site as well. Without turning this review into a blatant commercial for his books, I'll concentrate on just the meat of the site. Wacky Uses I like this site because it doesn't beat around the bush. Click on the Wacky Uses link and you are immediately presented with a list of products which can be used in unique and original ways around the house. Now, I find some of the suggestions to be of the "duh" nature like his suggestion that you can wrestle in Jell-O, but, I'm sure these suggestions were placed to add a little "levity" to the site. However, I'll bet you didn't know that Jell-O, when dissolved in warm water, can be used as a setting lotion in your hair just like any hair gel product! "Hmm, Mike! I see you started using gel in your hair -- and, yum! It smells like Banana-Strawberry!" No, thank you! Anyway, this section of the site is just full of things like this. You really need to browse it to be amazed at some of the things you can do with this stuff. It's also REALLY SCARY! Weird Facts Did you know that Cream of Tartar is also called potassium bitartrate and has the chemical formula KHC4H4O6? Neither did I, but thanks to the Weird Facts section of the Wacky Uses web site I do now! Clicking through and reading all of these facts is addicting! Inca's drank beer during their ceremonies -- Q-Tips Cotton Swabs were originally named "Baby Gays" -- Wonder Bread does not contain any cholesterol or saturated fat. Oh, you get the idea. What Else Is There? What, you want more? If spending hours clicking through the links of Wacky Uses and Weird Facts is not enough for you, you may also peruse the What's New, The Books and the Wacky Uses message boards. Most interesting of these I suppose is the Censored Uses section of What's New. This doesn't appear -- thankfully -- to be X-rated censoring, but rather "The manufacturers of these products take NO RESPONSIBILITY" censoring, so be warned! I also like the reader tips section. Some of them (Taco Bell sauce to clean jewelry?) are a little bizarre, but, hey, if it works! Lastly, if you really want to gross yourself out, read the Miracle All-Natural Lice Cure! In all, though, WackyUses.com is a great site to spend (waste?) some time. So when you get a chance head on over!
